In a fresh development in the sensational Raja Raghuvanshi murder case that has gripped national attention, the family of accused Sonam Raghuvanshi has taken a significant step by returning expensive wedding jewellery worth ₹16 lakh to the deceased’s family. This jewellery, which included a gold ring, bangles, a chain, and a necklace, was part of the lavish gifts given by Raja’s family to Sonam during their wedding on May 11, 2024. The ornaments held not only financial value but also emotional significance, as they symbolized the bond of a newly formed marriage that tragically ended just days later during the couple’s honeymoon in Meghalaya. According to reports, Raja was wearing some of this jewellery at Sonam’s insistence at the time of his suspicious death, which now forms a crucial part of the ongoing investigation.
The jewellery was returned by Sonam’s brother, Govind Raghuvanshi, in the presence of Indore police and family representatives, a move many see as a gesture of accountability or perhaps an attempt to mitigate further legal trouble. While the family of Raja sees this as too little, too late, they have accepted the return through legal and community mediation, though their pursuit for justice remains undeterred. At the same time, two individuals closely linked with Sonam—Lokendra Tomar and Balbir Ahirbar—were granted bail by a judicial magistrate. The bail was issued despite objections by the public prosecutor, who cited their potential involvement in the conspiracy and cover-up.
The controversy thickens around the role of a third co-accused, Silom James, a local broker from Shillong who owns the flat where Sonam and Raja stayed. He is accused of helping Sonam escape and hiding a pistol and ₹1 lakh in cash from her bag after the incident. Police allege he was instrumental in removing key evidence from the scene. His bail application is scheduled for July 16, and the prosecution is expected to oppose it firmly, as his actions may hold the key to understanding the real sequence of events that led to Raja’s death. Investigations have also revealed inconsistencies in Sonam’s statements and her movements following Raja’s disappearance, raising doubts about a broader conspiracy involving multiple individuals.
Meanwhile, Raja’s family continues to raise serious concerns about the handling of the case. His brother, Vipin Raghuvanshi, and mother Uma Raghuvanshi have called for advanced investigation techniques like narco-analysis and lie detector tests on Sonam and other accused persons, suggesting that the truth remains buried beneath layers of manipulation and deceit. They have also accused certain parties of tampering with digital evidence, deleting call logs, and misleading investigators. Vipin has now taken the initiative to travel to Shillong personally in search of more clues, showing the family’s resolve to seek justice no matter how long the battle continues. They have also hired a legal team of three lawyers to strengthen their case and ensure that no accused escapes through legal loopholes.
This high-profile case has triggered national outrage due to its mix of betrayal, love, murder, and hidden motives. Sonam, once seen as a doting newlywed, is now accused of being part of a premeditated plot that led to her husband’s brutal death. The jewellery return, while a symbolic act, does little to cover the deep scars left behind. For Raja’s grieving family, justice is not just about recovering gold and ornaments—it is about exposing the full truth and ensuring that all culprits, no matter how influential, are brought to book. The next few weeks are expected to be crucial as the case proceeds to deeper legal scrutiny and more revelations unfold in the courtroom and beyond.
